“Brief History of Indira Gandhi College”
Indira Gandhi College was established in 1984 by the prominent medical practitioner and eminent educationist & philanthropist Dr. Madhukarrao Wasnik. It was started in 1984 in Kalmeshwar near Brahmni fata. Later it shifted near Datta Mandir, Kalmeshwar in 1990, since then it is serving quality education to rural students. Dr. Wasnik himself received education in very adverse circumstances, regarded it his calling to build a college from the inspiration given by Dr B.R Ambedkar for the poorest of the poor. He rented a place for the college, where the Indira Gandhi Arts & Commerce College, Kalmeshwar was established in 1984. Later it shifted to new building which is spread over 2.54 acres (910279.02 sq. mt.). Eventually in 1989, the college increased its premises on Kalmeshwar Road, where it is presently based. Being a permanently affiliated college to Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University it has 2(F) and 12(B) sanctioned from the UGC. The college has 2 traditional programmes B.A. and B.Com. which are sanctioned by the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University.
The college runs various courses in Arts, and Commerce stream. It has opened Yashvantarao Chavhan Maharashtra Open University since 2011, which has B.A. and B.Com. courses.
